The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most amazing architectural structures from medieval Europe. It is located in the Italian town of Pisa. The Tower of Pisa stands at 60 metres and until 1990 was leaning at about a 10 degree angle. Although it was designed to be perfectly vertical, it started to lean during construction. With 207 columns ranged around eight stories, Tower of Pisa looks like a massive wedding cake. Near the Pisa tower in Piazza dei Miracoli or Field of Miracles, there is the cathedral or Duomo of Pisa, the baptistery and an old cimitery.
Via dei Fori Imperiali is
a road in the centre of the city of
Rome. Along it
there are Imperial Roman monuments such as the Forum of Trajan, Augustus and Nerva.
There is the Trajan’s column and at
the end of this road the Colosseum an elliptical amphitheatre built of concrete
and stones between 70 to 80 AD. It was the largest of the Roman
empire.During the Roman empire
it was used for gladiators, public spectacles and dramas.
The Duomo is at the center of Milan. It was built in 1385 and it was consecrated in in 1418. it has a Gothic design and the front façade is the most imposing element. There are five bronze doorways, the central one is the oldest and was created in the nineteenth century. The Duomo is decorated with lots of beautiful statues and spires. There are 3159 statues in total, 2245 of these are on the exterior together with 96 gargoyles and 135 spires. The most famous statue is the Madonnina (Little Madonna), a copper statue of the virgin Mary covered with 3900 pieces of gold leaf.
Pompeii is a Roman town and it is like an open book because it provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past. The city was unexpectedly buried in the thick layer of ash and lava which poured down from the devastating eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D. The city has remained intact until the present day, not only as far as its buildings are concerned, but also as regards the contents inside the houses and shops, providing an interesting picture of "daily" life. The houses still contain furniture, ornaments, gold and silverware, work tools, kitchenware, bronze and terracotta lamps, foodstuffs of all kinds.
The Valley of Temples is an hill in Agrigento- Sicily and it is a famous Greek site. The Greek city was called Akragas and the later Roman town was named Agrigentum. There are five temples but the Temple of Herakles is the most ancient of the remaining temples at Agrigento, dating to the sixth century BC. The Temple of Concord is one of the best-preserved temples of the ancient world. The Agrigento temples are in the Doric style.
